Frequent survey updates

Nearmap captures new content at frequent intervals throughout the year, covering 95% of Australia’s population, up to 6 times a year in metropolitan areas.

Nearmap imagery is captured solely by piloted turbo-prop aircraft (including the Cessna 310, and Vulcanair 68) which fly in a crosshatch pattern at altitudes between 6,000ft and 20,000ft.

Flying fixed-wing aircraft of this type allows for fast, detailed data capture over wide areas of land. The unique camera technology – Nearmap’s Australian-designed and built HyperCamera 3 – obtains a depth of clarity that reveals details down to a scale of 5.5cm–7.5cm Ground Sampling Distance (GSD).

Ground Sampling Distance/GSD is the area on the ground represented by each pixel in a digital image. The smaller the pixel area, the more detail visible. Nearmap imagery is 5.5cm–7.5cm GSD (satellite imagery can be 30cm).

By integrating Nearmap into the Terrain ecosystem, you can access up-to-date property layers and spatial workflows like bulk titles for surveying and field planning all in once view.

Using the time slider to compare different survey dates side by side identifies any changes, and confirms the actual historical condition and status of sites and properties – including vegetation, surfaces, and surrounding features. Previous Nearmap surveys are accessible in a back catalogue of surveys back to 2007.

Property planning professionals such as surveyors, asset managers, utility providers, infrastructure developers and energy suppliers can gain a precise, detailed picture of land parcels and properties to reach decisions faster, and with more certainty in the accuracy.
