Speakers

Daniel Paull

As EVP and GM Nearmap ANZ, Dan Paull has more than 30 years of professional geospatial industry experience helping stakeholders leverage geospatial intelligence to achieve success. Dan holds an Executive Master of Business Administration from The Australian Graduate School of Management (AGSM) jointly conferred by the University of UNSW and University of Sydney, plus a Bachelor of Surveying from UNSW (School of Surveying and Spatial Information Systems).

David Tobias

David Tobias, a co-founder of Betterview, serves as the General Manager of Insurance at Nearmap, driving the insurance market strategy for the Betterview platform, enabling insurers to effectively identify and mitigate risk, enhance operational and inspection efficiency, and build a more transparent customer experience throughout the policy lifecycle. A veteran of the insurance industry and property inspection business, David delivers actionable, usable solutions to insurance-specific problems.

M'Shenda Turner

As Senior Director of Nearmap Survey Operations (ANZ) M’Shenda and her team are responsible for planning, monitoring and processing content more than 500 regular survey regions across Australia and New Zealand, including delivery of the Nearmap ImpactResponse Program. M’Shenda has a Bachelor of Commerce, a Graduate Diploma in Finance and Investment, and most recently completed a Masters of Sustainable Agriculture researching the sustainability.

Shaji Sethu

Shaji Sethu, Senior VP and MD of Guidewire APAC, is a seasoned cloud computing and insurance technology veteran. From leading geographic expansion and developing strategic partnerships to spearheading customer-centric business initiatives, Shaji’s career has been defined by transformative leadership and a deep commitment to the success of APAC insurers. With a passion for emerging tech and market trends, he has become a trusted advisor on digital transformation and leveraging technology innovation for growth.

Mike Bewley

As VP, AI and Computer Vision at Nearmap, Mike leads the AI and Computer Vision group, building the core technology that turns large scale aerial imagery into visual and semantic products for use in applications including property insurance. Mike has experience in a range of high stakes and regulated industries, from medical devices at Cochlear, banking, environmental monitoring and underwater robotics during his PhD at the Australian Centre for Robotics.

Dr Catherine Ball

Associate professor, Dr Catherine Ball is an academic, company director, best-selling author, futurist and visioneer working across global projects where emerging technologies meet humanitarian, education, and environmental needs. Holding a BSc Honours (Environmental Protection), a PhD (Spatial Ecology, Descriptive and Predictive Statistics), and a CSc (Doctor of Science Honoris Causa, from Worcester Polytechnic in Massachusetts, USA, Catherine is also a member of Australia’s Robotics Advisory Council.

Kate Lyons

With a career spanning over 25 years in the insurance industry, Kate has gained extensive experience across a range of areas from actuarial, to capital, investments, reinsurance, climate, and sustainability. In 2024 she joined the Insurance Council of Australia in the role of Chief Information Officer and is focused on how data and technology can influence a more resilient Australia and a stronger reputation for Insurers, particularly in relation to extreme weather events.

Lynn Thompson

Global Head of Strategy and Partnerships, QBE Ventures, Lynn helps unlock the potential of technology to drive meaningful business impact, working with companies to launch strategic partnerships, build new propositions and improve core business performance. Harnessing the latest technology including geospatial data and AI, Lynn helps QBE Ventures realise the full potential to transform residential and commercial property risk and claim processes.

Dan Maurer

As EVP of Strategy & Operations at Nearmap, Dan leads global strategy, Geospatial Content Operations and legal at Nearmap, ensuring our industry leading content is consistently and efficiently delivered to enable the insights and answers on which Nearmap customers depend. Dan holds a Bachelor of Commerce and of Law (Hons) and is a member of CAANZ.
