In June 2019, we hosted the first-ever Nearmap NAVIG8 user conference across three Australian cities, welcoming over 800 attendees to get first glimpse at our groundbreaking new products and immerse themselves in deep-dive workshops led by our product and engineering teams.
Each city featured plenary talks to unveil disruptive new 3D and AI technology, and take a behind-the-scenes look at how our coverage and vision systems programs bring Nearmap imagery to life. We also hosted industry experts on a location technology panel, and ran workshops to help our users become experts at deriving insights from the Nearmap imagery and tools.
It was an incredible forum to bring the Nearmap community together. Diverse industries were represented, including construction and engineering, government, education, utilities, property and real estate, roofing and solar, and insurance. There may even have been a spatial manager from a zoo (or two). We came away with many valuable insights and suggestions from our users to help them achieve better business outcomes in every day.

People have been using 3D to visualise the real world since the stone age. Now, 3D is becoming an integral part of how modern decisions are made. At NAVIG8, Nearmap CTO Tom Celinski unveiled the new Nearmap 3D, a way to explore 3D maps easily through an intuitive web application.
By simply logging into Nearmap, users can now instantly access 23,000 km² and 99,000 mi² of Australian and US 3D — with simple view, measure, and export features.
Nearmap AI is more than a model. We've built an integrated AI system to deliver continental-scale insights across hundreds of millions of images from the past decade. Director of AI Systems Michael Bewley introduced NAVIG8 audiences to what's possible with automated insights into property-level attributes.
What if LGAs could identify every property with a pool in seconds? What if you could tie state-wide trends in solar uptake to the introduction of rebate schemes? Insights extracted from a petabyte-scale image dataset can help businesses make richly informed decisions.
Current, clear imagery delivered on a schedule doesn't come without its fair share of challenges. Director of ANZ Survey Operations M’Shenda Turner and Director of Vision Systems John Corbett explained how we deal with cloudy days, rule-bound ATC controllers, and squeamish secret service agents — and then how we pull all those pixels together to deliver a seamless aerial map of your world.
Our favourite part of the NAVIG8 events? Seeing the bright, shining faces of the Nearmap community. We got feedback, suggestions, questions, and a heap of signups for our product research program.
The deep-dive workshops allowed attendees to get practical tips and tricks for working with MapBrowser, importing 3D into third-party apps, use the full suite of Nearmap APIs, and start applying AI insights to their business.
