How to Find a location

We are constantly updating and improving our find feature to make it quicker, smarter and more accurate. Your suggestions and feedback are most welcome, so please share them with us by adding to the wish list.

As we currently have PhotoMaps for Australia only, our find feature only works for this country. The scope of this feature will expand as we increase our PhotoMap coverage to include other countries.

For best results...

Try formatting your search like this: Street name, Suburb/City, State. For instance,

Additional examples...

  • Haig Street, Stafford (Street name, suburb)
  • Olympic Boulevard, Melbourne (Street name, city)

More ways to find a location...

Providing additional details gives more precise results. However, you do not need to know all the details to find a location. You can search also for a street, suburb or state as follows:

Street

Type in the street into the find bar on the map page, and press [Enter] or click on the ‘magnifying glass’. For instance,

  • Frazer Street
  • Victoria Road

Hint – providing the suburb with the street name, will return more accurate results. For example ‘Smith Street’ is a broad search whereas ‘Smith Street, Dianella’ is a very narrow search so the results will be more accurate.

Suburb

If you would like to explore a suburb, type in a suburb name into the find bar on the map page and you will then be presented with a PhotoMap centred on this suburb.

However, if this suburb name exists in different states, the search results will provide you with options to choose from and you can select which one to view. I.e. there is a North Beach in Western Australia and South Australia:

State

To return an accurate result, please spell out the full state name instead of just typing the acronym. For example, ‘Western Australia’ not ‘WA’. You will then be presented with a map centred on the state.

Places of Interest

This feature provides a way to quickly navigate to a particular attraction you want to check out. Included in our search index are many tourist attractions, zoos, stadiums, universities, places of worship and more. This list of categories will grow as we go along.

You can type in the name of a landmark like “Sydney Opera House” or “Melbourne Zoo” and our find feature will take you there.

However, like with our StreetMaps, we obtain these places of interest via the community driven OpenStreetMap project. As a result, if you mark an as yet unmarked attraction on OSM, it will be findable on our site after our next update!
